Toolboxes for Districts and Starter Kits for States  Shared Responsibilities for
High Student Performance The Parental Involvement Toolbox is for schools and school districts and contains a set of easy-to-implement ideas for improving parental involvement in public schools, as well as tips for building and sustaining a parent involvement. The Toolbox can be accessed for a fee, which includes resources for schools for creating a parent involvement pledge website, parent involvement report cards and certificates, recruitment tools, and a parent organizer database. Each state Family Involvement Starter Kit comes with Parental Involvement Toolboxes for all local districts (LEA's) and schools and contains the Parental Involvement Pledge, Parental Involvement Report Card and more. A common statewide pledge or compact can quantify the level of parental involvement in each participating school district and can ensure that the entire state is pulling in the same direction.

Family Mobilization Strategy
Almost every day,
citizens are
urged to lend a hand at schools. Educators welcome volunteers, but we
all know that good volunteer programs don't happen by accident. Schools
that
are most successful in engaging parents and other family members
in support of their children's learning look beyond traditional
definitions of parent involvement-participating in a parent teacher
organization or signing quarterly report cards-to a broader conception
of parents as full partners in the education of their children. Rather than simply asking and expecting parents to volunteer in schools, use the Parental Involvement Pledge to canvass the entire school-community, city, or state during the school year and into the next.
